Fan Tan is also known as fan-tan is a traditional Chinese gambling game. It is fundamentally a game of pure luck and shares many of the characteristics with blackjack. It was developed in the province of Shang Dynasty around 700 BC. The game consisted of playing cards using the same nine-card deck used in regular card games.

The nine cards are laid out in the similar to a regular game. Each player is dealt two cards, one on each side, at the start of the game. There are two special rules in fan-tan, one that applies to the west, and one for the east. This means that the cards are laid out face-down from west-to-east. After all cards are dealt, each person chooses one number from one to seven. This will count from one through seven for the remainder of cards.
